Bake Off Reactions - Spice Week

The first ever Spice Week!
So we're already half way through our favourite show of the year and GBBO certainly added a little kick with its first ever Spice Week. Something tells us that Paul and Pru just wanted to taste more delicious cakes and biscuits so decided to add ginger to the mix, call it Spice Week and be done with it (we don't blame you guys)! From show-stopping biscuit chandeliers to booze-overload bakes, things definitely spiced up as we lost two brilliant contestants this week (WE STILL LOVE YOU TEZZA)!
BAE of the Week
Picture
I mean this isn't going to be much of a surprise to anyone that's been reading the Reactions blogs... WE LOVE RAHUL! While the cuteness overload coming from this guy has had us fawning over the show even more, it is Rahul's unbelievable consistency and amazing performance throughout Bake Off that has won us over this week. And, although he was beaten by Kim-Joy to this week's crown, the two-time Star Baker winner is yet to have a bad week. It seems the worst Rahul can do is apologise for being so talented, especially when Paul tells him he's "a little genius". We just can't get enough of him and it looks like neither can the rest of you!
Picture
Picture
Picture
We were far from shocked when Paul Hollywood dished out a well-deserved handshake to Rahul for his spiced masterpieces this week, but we're with you Twitter... that handshake is SO overdone now (rein it in Hollywood)!
Picture
Picture
Then again, these handshakes aren't just going out to any old crumpet or cake. Have you seen how high the stakes are with this year's showstopper tasks?!
Picture
Picture
Picture
No wonder things got a little heated between contestants in the tent (well, as heated as they get on GBBO)...
Picture
They're all just so kind to each other! The tent is filled with nothing but love between a bunch of lovely lovely humans -  I don't think we'll ever get Love Island drama on this show (and it's just what we need)!
Picture
Picture
We couldn't agree more; and it seems more and more of you are talking about a day in the life of Kim-Joy, a wonderful, unique character we crowned our BAE of the Week last week!
Picture

Now for the moment that we've avoided for the whole blog (*extracts head from sand*). We're absolutely gutted that Spice Week marked the end of Terry and Karen's journey on Bake Off, and for the avid Reaction readers, you'll know Terry stole our hearts at the very beginning. It was Terry's leaving speech that rocked the nation as we realised just how important baking was to him. We wish him all the luck in the world and will miss his little face appearing on our screens every week!

We love you Tezza!

So that's Spice Week rounded up for you! We're already counting down the days to the next GBBO favourite, Pastry Week! Don't forget to catch up with us on the blog and enter our weekly competition. Happy baking!

Bake Off Reactions - Dessert Week

It's Dessert Week in the tent!
Last night's Bake Off was definitely one to watch as Dessert Week was underway in the rolling grounds of Berkshire's Welford Park. But even with so much going on, from a wobbly technical to collapsing chocolate balls, we still missed our main guy Terry who couldn't bake in the show due to illness. And with Terry's absence came a plot twist... no elimination, making next week's show extra spicy as potentially two bakers face leaving the show.  But which contestant is our BAE of the Week, potentially securing their (ballet first) position in the semi-finals? (OK, we're getting ahead of ourselves but it is Bake Off...)

BAE of the Week
Picture
That's right, our BAE of the Week is Welsh baker Jon who impressed us with a ballet-themed showstopper, taking inspiration from his daughter. But it wasn't just his amazing chocolate ball that melted to reveal a tasty treat inside that we loved. Jon is clearly one of our Archangels as his tad-aaah moment was made ten times better thanks to his bright pink tutu and first position stance that matched the ballet bake. Now THAT is how you present a showstopper.
He also helped a struggling Ruby finish her white chocolate ball so basically he's an all-round nice guy.
Picture
Picture
Picture
In fact, the whole tent seems to be full of love now as contestants become closer as the show continues. We're feeling the love!

It's time to talk about Kim-Joy
We're not actually sure how we've got this far into the series without talking about this brilliant human much. If you love all things bizarre and kooky (and we do!), this is your girl. Obviously we love all things creative and eccentric when it comes to bakes so Kim-Joy has always been one to watch for us. And it's not just us! Her out of this world, Galaxy chocolate ball with... wait for it... TURTLES hiding inside was the talking point of Twitter last night.
Picture
I think we all went a little crazy for the super cute turtles too...
It was a shame about those blancmanges though.
When all stressful and goes sloppy, we know how to make it all better.
Picture

It's still all about our BAE Terry
He might not have been on last night's show but we were all still wondering what wonderful concoctions our fave hipster would have created for Dessert Week.

Picture

and then we found ourselves slightly torn between missing him and being thankful that he wasn't there to stress us out with a ridiculous bake that could actually be his last (the guy definitely dares to bake big)!
Picture

All while some of us started speculating his tactics...
and relating to the contestants who went through the ups and downs of Bake Off for no real advancement into the next stage of the competition (everyone's through)!
Picture

Rahul's weekly cuteness update

It only seems right to have a little segment on the blog to talk about the adorable Rahul's latest antics in the tent. He is just brilliant - that face!
Picture
How can anyone not love the guy? With him treating the judges like royalty, we're expecting him to receive a knighthood after the show.

That's it from us this week but don't forget to catch up with us next Wednesday for Spice Week! We'll be posting a recipe on the blog on Tuesday so you can create your own spice-infused bakes (YUM) and if you go for a slightly fiery option, remember to drink your milk (take it from Rahul). Happy Baking!

Bake Off Reactions - Bread Week

For the loaf of bread!
Bake Off was back last night with Bread Week and we saw Terry rise to the challenge, Paul Hollywood go soft, Antony become toast, and rejoiced as our fave BAE-ker Rahul was on an absolute roll. What a loaf of buns, PUNS… we mean puns, and it turns out Twitter was loving the particularly pun-centric theme too.  BUT FIRST, are you bready to find out which contestant earned their Cake Angels wings?

BAE of the Week
As much as Rahul is still giving us major cuteness feels, we’ve cherry-picked (or beret-picked if you like) the baker that sprinkled some sass on Bread Week, with style.
Picture
We’re all about putting your own unique twist on your creations and totally owning, it so we’ve crowned Karen Wright our BAE of the Week. The 60-year-old baker from West Yorkshire demonstrated true Cake Angel vibes as she dared to bake insanely bright Chelsea Buns, while donning a bright red beret, with no regrets (YOU DO YOU BOO!) and we know she’d love your reactions…
Picture
Picture
Picture
Our BAE has defo taken the style spotlight from Noel this week – this is the colour POP on Bake Off we knead (just HAD to WORK that one in there).

The comment that shook the nation
Now, the love we have for Rahul is not to be taken lightly after last night’s show. He really is the gift that keeps on giving as he impressed the judges so much so with his Signature Bake that he was Star Baker for the second week in a row. But we’re more obsessed with the way the self-effacing yet emerging and potential Bake Off Champion felt the need to apologise before, during and after the judges had tasted his Chelsea buns *cries a little*.
Picture
Picture
We’re falling more in love with Rahul each week and it was his claim that he bakes to make new friends that went viral (the word cute doesn’t even cut it).
This was literally all of us.
And just when we composed ourselves...
Nope, we can’t deal.

No more “oh crumbs” for Terry…
We were DELIGHTED that Terry was able to deliver this week on Bake Off, just as our hipster BAE claimed hopefully that this would be his week. After coming close to elimination in the past couple of weeks, Britain went crazy for Terry as Paul revealed his tangy citrus Chelsea buns look just like the ones he makes, before winning the garlic naan technical.
Picture
Picture
That’s our guy!

Why is Greggs trending?
Oh for the loaf of bread, why are we so British…
Picture
To be fair, Greggs IS a national treasure  (yep, we’re now drooling over them steak bakes).
Picture
And we wouldn’t be British without picking up on “tight buns” and THAT innuendo…
Picture
Another week, another treat
So, we said goodbye to self-acclaimed “Bollywood Baker” Antony this week and admittedly it’s getting harder each time (maybe it’s us that’s going soft!) We’re invested now. Buzzing to put our elasticated trousers on next Tuesday as Dessert Week returns, so we’ll meet you back here on Wednesday for a round up of the best reactions! Don’t forget to tag @Cake_Angels and hashtag #GBBO and #CakeAngels so we can find your tweets. Also check out our GBBO inspired recipes to get your bake on!

Bake Off Reactions - Cake Week

It's Cake Week!
This summer was crazy hot. Britain served up a chart-busting heatwave that wasn't too far off Portugal's dreamy weather, well...dreamy for some but certainly not our bakers! Last night's Cake Week episode showed the temperature rising in the tent as contestants were challenged to work with chocolate... not ideal. The episode also broke Bake-Off records for the first EVER showstopper handshake, and it was met by the cutest reaction we’ve seen on the show! That’s why we’ve made Star Baker Rahul our BAE of the Week.

BAE of the Week

Rahul, winning at life: Star Baker, first ever Showstopper hand-shaker and THE cutest contestant
As overheard in Cake Angels HQ, this Rotherham-based Research Scientist is cuteness overload and we all just want to pick him up and put him in our pocket (then possibly point him to the kitchen to get baking)! We too were absolutely delighted when the first ever showstopper Hollywood Handshake landed over his beautiful cake
...especially when he walked up to the judge's table thinking Paul had found a cocktail stick in it.

And we think we can all relate to this guy, I mean... we've all had the same thoughts, right?
Picture

But while we were all jumping for joy for Rahul’s Cake Week success, we couldn’t help but notice the Hollywood handshake was everywhere in this week’s episode (what’s that all about?!). We applaud Twitter for sprinkling some sass on the Handshake Hour. Paul Hollywood be like...
Picture
Either way, receiving one is a big deal to contestants and we can’t help but cheer them on – we’re all suckers for the Hollywood Handshake effect.
Picture

Terry is still our Ride or Die
This guy was our BAE of the week, last week, but we can’t stop loving his daring approach to bakes, a love that BuzzFeed agreed will ultimately shatter our hearts into pieces. It was this week’s collapsing Chocolate Eiffel Tower that has us all in sweats for Terry’s safety in the competition.
It’s true. We’ve caught feelings for Terry and we just need to protect him from his own baking disasters before he leaves our screens for good! Terry, Cake Angels have your back, let’s smash Bread week boo.

Talking about bread week… anyone else?
Picture
We’re with you girl – jeans firmly undone.

We're not over it, Noel
The launch of Bake Off last week introduced us to Noel’s new look and one week later it’s still the talk of Twitter. Even with him running around the tent dressed as Marie Antoinette and lifting spirits during the heated affair of Cake Week, we couldn’t take our minds off the lack-of-locks.
Picture

Who wore it best?
So that’s it for another week of Bake Off! We have loved reading your reactions and a massive congrats to Rahul again for being our BAE-ker of the week. Happy tweeting for Bread Week and don’t forget to feast your eyes on our next reaction blog! Share via the link below and sign up to our blog newsletter to never miss a beat.
