Bake Off Reactions - THE FINAL

Picture
The Great British Bake Off final has aired and with it ensured absolute chaos! The heat has clearly got to us all -  there have been glass jars exploding, meltdowns at the fire pit, fiery Twitter debates filling our news feeds, and now the nation is looking for the answer to the question we all need to know; what will we do with our Tuesday nights now Bake Off has finished?!
Picture
Picture
At Cake Angels, we want to congratulate our three finalists Kim-Joy, Ruby and Rahul for absolutely smashing it over and over again throughout the show; you guys have been a pleasure to watch.

So, onto the results... If you haven't seen it yet, SPOILER ALERT! Scroll down now to hear about last nights' drama, plus we reveal GBBO's 2018 winner!

Picture
GBBO 2018 WINNER IS... RAHUL!
YASSSSS RAHUL! We have to admit that we would have equally loved to see Kim-Joy OR Ruby win because all three of them have been fabulous, but Rahul has been a great watch! If there's anything we, or our Angels, can learn from this guy is that perseverance and a little self-belief goes a really long way.

Picture
Name a cuter contestant on the show... I'll wait. Rahul, our three-time BAE of the week and his self-proclaimed 'depressing' personality has made us laugh from the very beginning, and we've become pretty emotionally invested over the past few weeks.
Picture
Whether it's his apologetic bakes or clumsy baking disasters, we couldn't get enough of him, especially on Twitter. This is what you lot have had to say about our 2018 winner (from national treasure to teacher's pet - ouch)!

This is EXACTLY how we pictured Rahul's success too...
Picture

...and over to the haters!
Picture

Picture
Picture
Picture
One of our favorite moments from the show had to be Ruby's pie in the face from the other two, as she reassured she loved them before the big reveal.
Picture
Rahul is just another level of rejection.
Picture
If Rahul did Halloween...
Picture
Overall, it was a brilliant series with some of the best BAE-kers we've seen on the show. Whether you're a Rahul fan or not, the suspense and surprises have been a fabulous watch (and at least Prue didn't give the winner away this time)! Already feeling the post-GBBO blues? Take a read of our Reactions Blog from the past 10 weeks and re-live the Twitter drama following the show. Until next year, happy baking!

Bake Off Reactions - Patisserie Week

Semi-finals!
The semi-final special, when four became just three! Week nine of the nation's favorite baking competition saw Briony leave the tent after making a rookie mistake that would could have seen her go in the first couple of weeks. Hint to all bakers: label your salt and sugar, there's no coming back when you mix these two up! So salty patisseries weren't to the judges taste-buds, but it's fair to say everyone was sad to see the group downsize, leaving Rahul, Ruby and Kim-Joy in line for the baking throne.

BAE of the Week

RUBY RUBY RUBY RUBYYYY (ahhh-ahhhhh-ahhhh-ahhhhh-ahh-ahhhhhh)
Picture
Our BAE of the week is star baker, and 29-year-old project manager from London, Ruby Bhogal. We think Ruby has channelled the true Cake Angels vibe over the weeks and is absolutely smashing the competition now when it matters most! From her sassy way with Paul and cute friendship with Noel to her always-on, bold lipstick and love for boozy bakes, we couldn't find a girl we'd want to be baking in the kitchen with more. This week Ruby baked her way to the top, making a fabulous come-back after the first break in last nights show, creating an array of Parisian patisseries for the showstopper round.

Noel's Angels

It seems that one of last night's biggest talking points was our main man Noel Fielding, as the Twitter-sphere confessed their love for both his whacky shirt and caring nature towards the beaten down contestants! We're big fans of the presenter so we're calling ourselves Noel's Angels to show our appreciation. We all need a guy like Noel in our lives.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
We'd be comforting our lovely Kim-Joy too, she's just too sweet!
Picture
... and when the baking gets tough, eat your feelings away (we are 100% certain Kim-Joy's feelings taste absolutely incredible).
Picture
We could feel the pressure through our TV screens last night, we're fully invested now!
Picture
Picture

Noel trying to cheer Rahul up each week is actually giving us life. The two-time star baker has fully become the infamous gloomy character, Eeyore, but can Noel keep his spirits high for the final?

When the going gets tough...

We feel you Ruby..

Saying bye to the beautiful Briony

We've loved watching this brilliant baker and can't wait to see what she gets up to in the future. Next week won't be the same - WE MISS YOU!
Picture
Picture
Twitter seems to be thinking a certain someone else should be going... (behave you guys).

Next week is THE FINAL?!

How have we just had week nine?! It's going too fast and before we know it we're going to be lost in the world of post-Bake Off, and we are NOT ready! Who will win? Will Rahul make it through the winner announcement next week? Will Prue reveal the winner 24 hours too early? Will Dan run away with the winner's trophy cake stand? We can only wait to see how it all pans out in next week's final!

We'll see you all back here next Wednesday for the lowdown on the Great British Bake Off final!

Bake Off Reactions - Danish Week

Picture
The blog is back for our Bake Off Reactions, and this week it's all about the Danish! In honor of presenter Sandi Toksvig, Danish Week was another first for the series and presented a few pivotal challenges for our bakers. It also seemed to get very emotional in the tent as the quarter-finals played out, making the competition even tougher for everyone fighting for a place in the final. But as usual, the bakers put their competitiveness aside and grouped together to remember last weeks knock-out Jon, donning his signature, Hawaii shirt look, and helping one another with their Danish designs.
Picture
Even the presenters and Prue had their own patterned uniform for the show.
Picture

BAE of the Week
Before we get stuck in, it's time to announce our BAE of the Week, and this time we're mixing it up.
Picture
It's none other than Sandi! We thought now would be a great time to show our appreciation for one of our favorite presenters, especially as we all had food envy over them beautiful Danish creations made by the bakers this week. She's served up the sass and humor this series but it was helping hand and kindness towards a crying Kim-Joy last night that helped us make our decision. It seems you lot are backing us too with this one!
Picture
It was a harsh week for judge's comments and we couldn't help but feel for Kim-Joy, especially as her Danish Pastry was still absolutely incredible!
Picture
Picture
I mean, we shouldn't laugh but this one tickled us.
Picture
Well done Sandi for helping our girl Kim-Joy through some tough critiques. Shame on you Paul! Clearly someone's been told to rein in the Hollywood handshake and done a complete U-turn with feedback.

Bake Off Breakdowns
...and there seems to be only one person responsible on Twitter (the people have spoken)!
Picture
It wasn't just Kim-Joy put to the test in last night's show. It seemed that all the bakers were pushed to the limit, including Rahul who has had a brilliant track record up until now. Three of Rahul's worst bakes in the competition happened to all land on Danish Week and our fave began to question his place in the semi-finals (we can't look)!
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Luckily, Noel was on hand to help lighten the situation! We're not entirely sure Rahul 'gets' him though...
Picture
Picture
We definitely appreciated it Noel!
Picture
Picture

Tent Politics on Twitter
It was the debate of the series last night on Twitter after Rahul's worst week in the tent still didn't see him being sent home. Some are calling it a fix, a 'Hollywood Hoax', some say Manon's failed attempt to follow the brief was deserving of getting the boot, but we're staying firmly on the fence with this one! Were you #TeamManon or #TeamRahul?
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Simmer down guys, it's Danish Week. Let's celebrate the beautiful creation of the Danish Pastry,  the dessert you can disguise as breakfast at a morning business meeting!
Picture
After all, Manon's taking her exit pretty well considering...
Picture

The Caption Awards
We've found some pretty good captions this week, here's the top three everyone can relate to.

That's another week done and dusted,  so it's time to get our patisserie on! So who do you think will win, is it too early to say or have you had a fave from the start? Let us know in the comments below and keep up to date with our Bake Off Reactions every Wednesday! We can't wait to see what you have to say.

Bake Off Reactions - Vegan Week

Get your vegan on!
Welcome back Angels, it's good to see you on this fine Bake Off Reactions' Wednesday! Let's talk Vegan Week and it's first appearance on the Great British Bake Off because... wow. There's been nothing but drama surrounding this week's theme, from boycotts to cake collapses. and you guys definitely haven't missed a beat! Whether you're loving Bake Off's take on the latest food trend or staying clear of dairy alternatives for your own recipes, it's fair to say Vegan Week has been one of the most entertaining throughout the series.

BAE of the Week
Nothing to see here! We would like to dedicate this very special, Cake Angels acknowledgement to one guy and one guy only. Rahul, thank you for providing us with two hilarious and almost miss-able moments this week, we really appreciate it.
It's ok Rahul, we've all been there. Turns out everyone is still loving this extremely talented baker and team Rahul is going nowhere. You've found a national treasure here, GBBO.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
But who was watching closely and noticed how adamant Rahul was that he was leaving in next week's teaser clip?! We won't let this happen (even if it is all prerecorded and the bakers are keeping quiet about the outcome)!
Picture

Going, Going... GONE!
Vegan Week is one baker Ruby will never forget as her top-heavy cake collapsed and laid helplessly on the table, while the contestants had all escaped the tent for some fresh air. It was that moment we watched the wonky bake, drizzled in chocolate, slide slowly off the bottom tier in front of everyone's eyes that we shouted "NOOOO!" at the TV. We're sorry Ruby but it was brilliant.

Picture
Don't worry, it happens to the best of us, Ruby.
Picture

But if there's one thing we can take away from this, is the beautiful moment pre-collapse that saw all of the girls help Ruby steady her cake. Teamwork makes the dream work girls, that's what we love to see!
Picture
Picture
Even Ruby took to Twitter to share her own reaction. Sending you a virtual hug and at least you're still here!
Picture

Bakers take to Twitter
If you don't already follow the bakers on Twitter, you need to start following them. Kim-Joy has been treating us to some on-the-side style bakes dedicated to ex-contestants Jon and Dan (and it's so cute!!)
Picture
It's also good to see Dan is taking his exit from the show relatively well...
Picture
Picture

What's next?
We loved Vegan Week and thought it was a great addition to the show but we were wondering what else GBBO could have in store for us, for the rest of the series? Unfortunately Jon, we don't think a Kebab Week is on the cards this year...
Picture
So this week we waved goodbye to the brilliant, ballet-baker Jon who will be sorely missed from the competition! Who will be leaving next and is it too early to put our vote on Kim-Joy or Rahul to win? Check in with us next Wednesday for the best of Twitter's reactions to GBBO. Happy baking!

Bake Off Reactions - Pastry Week

So much to discuss this Pastry Week
Welcome back to the Reactions blog, where you'll find the best tweets, memes and commentary for the nation's favourite baking show. This week we saw the return of Pastry Week, the departure of the lovable Dan and some mad (hatter) bakes - see what we did there? In that case, let's talk BAE of the Week.

BAE of the Week
Picture
I'm not sure how this one previously escaped the accolade, but this week our shining star was happy-go-lucky Briony Williams from Bristol. We've loved watching her from the very beginning, and we're over the moon that the full-time mum received Star Baker last night! But no one is showing as much support and love for the Bristolian baker as her husband on Insta, also known as... well, @Steve_Brionys_husband (so cute)! Turns out we all need a supportive Steve in our lives, overflowing with admiration in their posts and drumming up the attention of social media. All of his pictures capture a day in the life of Briony, her media appearances and some brilliant selfies so definitely go check this guy out.
Picture
Picture
And be still our fluttering hearts, she even met up with one of our Bake Off faves... IT'S ONLY TEZZA! We hope this friendship lasts forever.
Picture
And let's take a moment to remember her week one masterpiece, incredible!
Picture

Paul is still a bit too handshake happy
Yeah yeah OK, the handshakes are getting "out of hand" (get it) - and you guys feel the same.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Then again, we're kind of thinking these handshakes are pretty well deserved, did you SEE those samosas?!
Picture
Picture
and Kim-Joy's mermaid pie?! So Cake Angels!
Picture
Picture

Prue and her necklaces
So let's see who's REALLY been watching; anyone else notice Prue's weird and wonderful, toy-like couture over the past few weeks? Well it seems a lot of you are just as eagle-eyed and can't help but draw similarities during the show, and we are LOVING IT.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture

Jon, what you doing BAE?
Picture
Picture
But don't worry, we're still loving you for that ballet-inspired showstopper and tutu.
Picture
Anyway, that's nothing compared to Dan's disturbingly realistic fish pastry. I mean, who wants to eat an uncooked fish? Artistic skill: 10/10. Appeal: 2/10.
Picture
and sadly for that and some unbaked samosas, that was the end of Dan's journey on Bake Off (there's going to be no one left soon)! We think you should keep up with the artistic bakes Dan, they look incredible but maybe steer away from the scaly, uncooked kind of vibe next time?

Continuing the love
The competition is certainly getting tougher but that doesn't stop the contestants being constantly supportive of each other!
Picture
If only the judges could be more like Rahul and this year everyone could win!
Picture
It's been another fabulous show and we can't wait to see what next week has in store. Especially when the teaser for Bake Off's first ever Vegan Week showed another potential #BinGate moment!!!
