Last night's Bake Off was definitely one to watch as Dessert Week was underway in the rolling grounds of Berkshire's Welford Park. But even with so much going on, from a wobbly technical to collapsing chocolate balls, we still missed our main guy Terry who couldn't bake in the show due to illness. And with Terry's absence came a plot twist... no elimination, making next week's show extra spicy as potentially two bakers face leaving the show. But which contestant is our BAE of the Week, potentially securing their (ballet first) position in the semi-finals? (OK, we're getting ahead of ourselves but it is Bake Off...) BAE of the Week That's right, our BAE of the Week is Welsh baker Jon who impressed us with a ballet-themed showstopper, taking inspiration from his daughter. But it wasn't just his amazing chocolate ball that melted to reveal a tasty treat inside that we loved. Jon is clearly one of our Archangels as his tad-aaah moment was made ten times better thanks to his bright pink tutu and first position stance that matched the ballet bake. Now THAT is how you present a showstopper. He also helped a struggling Ruby finish her white chocolate ball so basically he's an all-round nice guy. In fact, the whole tent seems to be full of love now as contestants become closer as the show continues. We're feeling the love! It's time to talk about Kim-Joy We're not actually sure how we've got this far into the series without talking about this brilliant human much. If you love all things bizarre and kooky (and we do!), this is your girl. Obviously we love all things creative and eccentric when it comes to bakes so Kim-Joy has always been one to watch for us. And it's not just us! Her out of this world, Galaxy chocolate ball with... wait for it... TURTLES hiding inside was the talking point of Twitter last night. I think we all went a little crazy for the super cute turtles too... It was a shame about those blancmanges though. When all stressful and goes sloppy, we know how to make it all better. It's still all about our BAE Terry He might not have been on last night's show but we were all still wondering what wonderful concoctions our fave hipster would have created for Dessert Week. and then we found ourselves slightly torn between missing him and being thankful that he wasn't there to stress us out with a ridiculous bake that could actually be his last (the guy definitely dares to bake big)! All while some of us started speculating his tactics... and relating to the contestants who went through the ups and downs of Bake Off for no real advancement into the next stage of the competition (everyone's through)! Rahul's weekly cuteness update It only seems right to have a little segment on the blog to talk about the adorable Rahul's latest antics in the tent. He is just brilliant - that face! How can anyone not love the guy? With him treating the judges like royalty, we're expecting him to receive a knighthood after the show. That's it from us this week but don't forget to catch up with us next Wednesday for Spice Week! We'll be posting a recipe on the blog on Tuesday so you can create your own spice-infused bakes (YUM) and if you go for a slightly fiery option, remember to drink your milk (take it from Rahul). Happy Baking! |
