Titanium Dioxide (E171) is an additive used in food as a white colourant. The purpose of food colours is to make food more visually appealing to the consumer.
In May 2021 the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) published a belief that stated that Titanium Dioxide can no longer be considered safe when used as an additive to food. This belief has triggered the European Commission and Member States to agree to remove all uses of product that include Titanium Dioxide as an additive.

The Southampton 6 are six artificial food dyes which were studied by researchers at Southampton University, who found a possible link between these dyes and an increase in hyperactivity in children consuming them.
The colours concerned are:
Tartrazine (E102)
Quinoline yellow (E104)
Sunset yellow (E110)
Carmoisine (E122)
Ponceau 4R (E124)
Allura red (E129)
New labelling standards for food containing any of the above described food colours, must not only be labelled with just the relevant E number, but also must state that consuming these artificial dyes 'may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children'
Would you trust a product that comes with a consumer warning, especially a warning for your children's health?
